Duterte says Cory is popular only for losing her husband

The Aquino family just celebrated the 10th year death anniversary of former president Corazon Aquino.

Her death was also the way that led to his only son Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III to be elected as the 15th President of the Philippines.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said the late president was only famous for losing her husband, former senator Benigno Simeon “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr.

“Cory Aquino maybe popular, she is popular today. Why? For losing the husband in the hands of Mr. Marcos,” Duterte said in his hometown Davao City.

The President said , it was ironic when it was during the Corazon Aquino administration where the Agrarian Land Reform Program was given priority as centerpiece of his national agenda, yet she spared the Aquino’s crown jewel Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac.

“Aquino declares land reform for the entire Philippines but exempted Dona [Hacienda[ Luisita. Her own land,” Duterte said.

“Hindi nya sinali yung kanya, she exempted her own. So you call her, the one who freed, emancipated. It’s an incongruity, si Cory,” he added.

The Supreme Court in 2017 made a ruling where 4,000 hectares of Hacienda Luisita were awarded to farmer-beneficiaries.It was under the administration of her son Benigno Aquino III, the government  began giving farmer-beneficiaries land titles to plots of Hacienda Luisita land.
