As
early as now, Philippine Navy’s newest assest has been tested.
En
route to Manila from South Korea, it was reported that a Chinese Navy warship
shadowed BRP Conrado Yap (PS39), the former South Korean
"Pohang"-class corvette "Chungju" , while sailing to the country,
said Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad.
“Kung
minsan nasunod sila eh gaya nung umuwi itong BRP Conrado Yap natin merong nag
sa shadow na Chinese Frigate pero nang sinabi ng barko natin na we are now
entering our territorial waters umalis din sila,” Vice Admiral Empedrad told
Bombo Radyo.

The
Navy chief said that Philippine Navy ships will not hesitate to warn foreign
vessels violating Philippine territory.

Conrado Yap was escorted by BRP Davao Del Sur (LD-602) on
its voyage, arrived in Manila South Harbor early Sunday morning. Both left
Jinhae Naval Base in Changwon City, South Korea last August 12.
The
former South Korean corvette has the distinction of being the the most
heavily-armed and powerful surface combatant of the Philippine Navy (PN) to date.
BRP
Conrado Yap ,is armed with two 76mm Oto Melara automatic guns, two Oto Breda
40mm light cannons, and two triple torpedo tubes, making it capable of dealing
with surface, sub-surface and air threats, according to Philippine Fleet
commander, Rear Admiral Giovanni Bacordo.
