The country is on the crossroads so to speak,
with the very volatile situation in the West Philippine Sea(WPS) specially
about China’s subtle bullying of other claimants, and highlighting the seem to
be quiet stance of the country about everything that is happening on it.
On the domestic front, the issue regarding
discrimination and equality has been lingering in the news this past few weeks,
wherein the lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, and queer sector (LGBTQ++
sector) are now demanding it and has been very vocal and
active in lobbying the passage of a law catering to their status in the
Philippine Society.
As it is now, the SOGIE bill uphill battle is in
the Senate, since the House of representatives have already passed said bill in
the third reading, with 197 unanimous votes.

In the halls of Senate, the one championing it is
opposition senator and Liberal party stalwart Rissa Hontiveros, who happens to
chair the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family
Relations and Gender Equality.
Even the Vice President – Leni Robredo has made
it public she supports the passage of the Sexual
Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression or SOGIE bill.
“Sa akin,
iyong hope ko, na sana itong incident na ito, no matter how unfortunate, maging
daan para finally ma-realize ng ating mga lawmakers na it’s about time na ipasa
natin [itong bill na ito]… Ang tagal na nitong nakabinbin,” VP Robredo said.
“Baka
karapatang iyon] dahil sa diskriminasyon,” she added.
Blogger Mr.
Carlo de Leon weighs in on the issue being pushed by the LGBTQ.
He says in
his Facebook post that:
The point I’m driving
at is the LGBTQ+ advocates have the right to promote themselves, but they are
insisting on laws to protect their group and curtail the freedom of expression
of those who oppose them. This is a draconian move, in my opinion.
People have the right to be conservative and traditional. You
can’t force them to become liberal or permissive in beliefs and actuations.
LGBTQ+ groups should respect the rights of those who choose to believe that men
born with a penis are men forever, and those born with vaginas are women
forever.

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
Members of LGBTQ+ have all the right to express themselves as
far as I’m concern. They are free to act, dress up, and speak the way they want
to express their sexual orientation and gender identity. I have no problem with
that, and this is true for many others.
The problem I see with the SOGIE bill is in the legislation
itself. Why make a law that will force me to agree with the advocacies of
SOGIE? If they have the right to express themselves, I too have the right to express and promote my heterosexual self.
I also have the right to disagree with their beliefs.
Now let’s turn the table around. What if strong believers of a
heterosexual society form an organization to promote more heterosexual
practices as opposed to the beliefs of LGBTQ+? Sounds like homophobia and
bigotry, right? Nonetheless, it’s still my right to promote my belief: the
promotion of more heterosexuals.
The point I’m driving at is the LGBTQ+ advocates have
the right to promote themselves, but they are insisting on laws to protect
their group and curtail the freedom of expression of those who oppose them.
This is a draconian move, in my opinion.
People have the right to be conservative and
traditional. You can’t force them to become liberal or permissive in beliefs
and actuations. LGBTQ+ groups should respect the rights of those who choose to
believe that men born with a penis are men forever, and those born with vaginas
are women forever.
YOU CAN’T LEGISLATE BELIEFS. IT’S PERSONAL AND
PRIVATE.
It’s better to keep the government out of sexual and
personal beliefs.
