Mayor Isko Moreno to fastfood chains: Accept seniors, PWDs as work crew

Good news for Manila residents who are already senior citizen and persons with disabilities.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is encouraging all fast food chains in the city to employ all capable and abled senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) who are wanting to apply as service crew in their respective restaurants.

Moreno announced that he has already instructed one of his officials to order fastfood chains to accept senior citizens as crew.

“Kayong mga senior, mag exercise na kayo,” Moreno first said during the signing of a city ordinance granting a P500 monthly allowance to senior citizens and PWDs.

“Dahil si Fernan Bermejo ay inatasan ko nang tupdin yung commitment natin na tumanggap ang mga Jollibee, McDonalds, lahat ng food chains ng senior citizen […] including PWDs,” he added.

Fernan Bermejo is the head of the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) of the local government of Manila.

According to the Manila Mayor, this would allow senior citizens who are still in good shape and health to have earnings while not exploiting their body too much.

“If Americans can do it, if Singaporeans can do it, if Japanese can do it, why not Manileños?” Moreno said.

“Hintayin niyo. Ipina-cocoordinate ko na yung ating PESO [tungkol dito sa instruction],” he added.
