There is no stopping the new mayor of
Manila.
Just today Mayor Isko Moreno has
ordered the removal of politicians’ names from all schools in the Philippines
capital to “distance public education from traditional politicking.”
And that will include his name if
found, this policy was decided during the City School Board meeting.

“Pinatatanggal ko lahat ng pangalan,
ultimo ang pangalan ko at pangalan ng mga pulitiko, na nakapintura o nakakabit
sa mga eskwelahan,” Moreno said.
“Lahat ng mga naglalagay na pulitiko ng kanilang mga pangalan as if you are immortalizing yourself or as if it is your money, that is not your money. Pera yan ng taumbayan,” he added.

Moreno’s order takes effect “as soon
as possible” and will cover all public school primary and secondary schools in
Manila.
When asked about the customary Happy
graduation greetings being done by local politicians, Moreno said it will be
tolerated as long as the streamers and tarpaulins are placed outside of school
premises.

their names on school buildings “as if it was their money” that was used to put
those up.
