Vice Ganda to 'run for President' if ABS-CBN's franchise is not renewed

Every talent in the media giant feels the heat and has a big understanding of what are the things to happen.

ABS-CBN’s number 1 comedy talent Vice Ganda using his unique brand of humor just made a joke of the ABS-CBN franchise renewal during noontime show “Showtime.”

During one of the shows segment titled “Kaparewho”, the anti-fencing law was brought up during a discussion with a contestant and “It’s Showtime” hosts Vice, Makati councilor Jhong Hilario, Korean mainstay Ryan Bang and Anne Curtis.

The topic made Vice Ganda utter one of the basic tenants of Philippine Law doctrine “ignorance of law excuses no one”, to which Jhong Hlario asked him why he has not run for public office.

“Ay nako, may balak ako, antayin niyo ako, President agad (I have a plan for President, just you wait),” Vice replied.

“Sabi ni Digong [President Rodrigo Duterte] sa akin, ‘Pagkatapos ko, ikaw magiging presidente. Ako bahala.’”

(President Rodrigo Duterte told me, “When I am done, you will become president. I will take care of it.)

Because of the confusion, Ryan Bang asked if he meant President of the Philippines.

“Oo, Presidente agad,” said Vice. “Siyempre ‘no, di nga tayo alam kung mari-renew, so magpi-Presidente agad para may work ako. Charot lang.”

(Yes, President right away. Of course we do not know when we will be renewed, so I will run for President so I have work. Just kidding.)

“Sa bagay, pwede ka na Presidente kasi ‘Vice’ ka na (You can be President because you are “Vice”),” joked Hilario.

News broke out last week that the media giant’s franchise is set to expire in March 2020. The bill to renew the franchise for another 25 years, House Bill No. 4349, has been “frozen” at the committee on legislative franchises since Nov. 16, 2016. The franchise bill has to be refiled when the 18th Congress opens on July 22, 2019.
