We will be like South Korea.
Senator elect Ronald “Bato”
dela Rosa said he will prioritize a bill which will require a mandatory
military service for Filipino youth, instead of the customary training for the
Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC).
"Like other countries na pagdating
mo ng 18 years old, obligado ka na mag-serve sa military for 2 years. Walang
Maganda rin iyon," the former Philippine National Chief said.
The senator said this will vastly
improve our territorial defense.
said.
"Kaya gusto ko malakas ang ating
territorial defense when it comes to foreign aggression, foreign invasion so
reserves, human resource reserves."
Last week, the House of Representatives
approved on a final and third reading a bill requiring senior high students a
mandatory Reserved Officers Training Course (ROTC).
The Department of National Defense,
Philippine National Police, and the Department of Education has made it public
its support for such endeavour as it would instill
patriotism and nationalism among the youth to become useful citizens.
