She was expected by many to be the
top 1 senator in the tally of votes, considering her respectful numbers last
2016 when she vied for the presidency.
Currently independent candidate, senator
Grace Poe,with 96.34 percent of vote counting machines already transmitting
election data, Poe is currently in second spot with 21,607,707 votes, according
to Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) transparency server.
She is also
occupying the second spot in the first batch of partial and official results
from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), occupying the number 1 spot is her
fellow re-electionist senator Cynthia Villar.

Poe notes that for this election she ran as independent
candidate “an independent campaign, no political party, few organized groups,
(and) without a deep well of resources.”
“When we step on the halls of the Senate anew and
face the people, we shall carry nothing but their interest and well-being,” Poe
said in a statement, given to the media.
“We vow to remain independent, discerning and equitable,
bearing in mind and heart that we owe the people our position,” she added.
“Our win is a triumph of independence for the Filipino people who stood by our side. Our sincerest gratitude for the overwhelming mandate,” she said.
