PHL’s anti-submarine helicopters arriving this May




Christmas came early for the Philippine Navy (PN), and to the Armed Forces to the Philippines (AFP) as a whole.


The two brand new AugustaWestland AW159 "Wildcats" anti-submarine warfare(ASW) helicopters, are now for delivery ftom the United Kingdom (UK) to the Philippines via airfreight.
“Initially earmarked for delivery in March this year, the [AW-159 Lynx] Wildcats will now be delivered tomorrow, 1 May 2019, from London-Stansted, using an (as of yet unknown) Antonov An-124,” Dutch aviation society Scramble Magazine said in an article.

“Once picked up they will fly on Friday 3 May to Manilla for the official handover,” it added.

The two ASW helicopters are expected to be presented during the 121st founding anniversary celebration for this month.


The AW-159 anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopter is an improved version of the Westland Super Lynx military helicopter.

The “Wildcat” has a crew of two, has a maximum speed of 291 km/h (181 mph), range of 777 km (483 miles), ferry range of 963 km (598 miles) and an endurance of one and a-half hours (fours hours and 30 minutes if fitted with an auxiliary fuel tank).
These two helicopters will be deployed to the two Jose Rizal class frigates that is currently being constructed in South Korea.
