Health advocate Dr. Willie Ong, failed to claim one
of the seats in the Magic 12, but this losing candidate is not sleepless about
it.
He said that it is better to lose this election
than win and be indebted to anyone who gave financial assistance to his senatorial
war chest in the just concluded senatorial elections.
Ong, who never had any television ads claims he did
not accept any donation and spent only 500,000 pesos for his senatorial
campaign, he mainly relied in social media where he has 10.1 million followers
in Facebook alone.

"Para sa akin lang, ayoko, parang
may utang ako. Mas okay pa sa aking matalo nang walang campaign funds, kaysa
tumanggap ako ng P200 million, nanalo ako. Anong victory doon?" he told
radio DZMM.
(I just don't want to have any debt.
It's better to lose without campaign funds than accept P200 million and win.
What's the victory there?)
He was asked if he is open in
running again in 2022, Ong said, "Ipagdarasal natin, medyo mahirap s'ya.
Ibang laro s'ya."
(We'll pray, it's a bit difficult. It's
a different game.)
For a newsbie in the election, Dr. Ong
got a respectable 7.6 million votes, landing in 18th place.
He was 2nd in votes garnered
from the Overseas Filipino Workers, next to Senator elect Ronald “Bato” dela
Rosa.
