‘US to remain Philippines’ only military ally’ - DFA Sec. Locsin

It’s the United States and no one else, being a military ally that is for the Philippines.
Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Boy Locsin said in a tweet,
“Why the US, the only world power that is a bastion of democracy and human rights, is and will remain our only military ally. We don’t need any other.”

Last month when US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo was in Manila, during the joint conference, Sec Locsin said, “in vagueness lies the best deterrence,” to describe the almost seven-decade-old Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT).

The seven decade Mutual Defense Treaty between the two countries basically states that the Philippines and the US will come to each other’s aid in case of armed attack.

Locsin’s made the remark amidst the apparent growing closeness of the country to the Asian giant that is China.
US State Secretary Pompeo assured the Philippines that US obligations under the MDT are “real.”
“As the South China Sea is part of the Pacific, any armed attack on Philippine forces, aircraft, republic vessels in the South China Sea would trigger mutual defense obligations under Article 4 of our Mutual Defense Treaty,” he said.
Department of Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has been quoted that he would like for review of the decade old MDT to clear vague provisions, most specially since the current conditions then is different at the present.
