To ‘save lives’ during typhoons, "Bato" suggests to arrest people who refuse rescue

Former Philippine National Police Chief and Bureau of Corrections director Ronaldo dela Rosa has a different take on the aspect of reducing the risk and improving the country’s response to natural calamities particularly during monsoon rains and typhoons.
During the CNN Philippines, televised debate dela Rosa said that if police must arrest people who refuse to be rescued they must do so to save lives.
"Kung kinakailangan ng pulis na mang-aresto para ma-save ang buhay nila, gawin natin ’yan," said Dela Rosa.

Prior to dela Rosa’s answer opposition candidate Erin Tañada took a swipe at dela Rosa when he said : Merong batas na People's Survival Fund na puwede pong i-access ng local government units to help fight and mitigate the effects of climate change . . . [Next] hindi dapat inaaresto 'yung mga taong ayaw umalis."

An irate former PNP Chief “Bato” dela Rosa went up to the rostrum and objected to Tañada's alleged jab.

"Kasi ako pinapatamaan niya na aresto eh," Dela Rosa said.
"Oh, huwag mong arestuhin, iwan mo diyan, malibing 'yan sa landslide. Useless ang pagkapulis."

Bato dela Rosa is running under the administration ticket of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and is also one of those endorsed by the regional party coalition Hugpong Pagbabago chaired by the first daughter Davao city Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
