“Kung sa palengke nga, ipinaglalaban
natin na tama ang timbangan eh, (Even in markets, people would fight for
correct weighing scales,” Roxas said, who was popularly known as “Mr. Palengke”
in the 2004 senatorial race.
“Kung mga misis, isang guhit lang, 900
grams pero isang kilo dapat, malaking bagay na, (For our wives, even just a
single line—a kilo instead of 900 grams—is already a big thing for them),” said
Roxas.
The former Trade secretary who is
running under the “Otso Diretso” opposition coalition, this May mid term
elections.
He made this statement as he echoes the
sentiments of his patymates in the opposition in rejecting the controversial
statements made by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio,
is the campaign manager of “Hugpong ng Pagbabago” candidates- made an earlier
statement wherein she insisted that the virtue of honesty should not be made an
issue this election season as all candidates have a penchant for lying.
Roxas puts up the argument like “timbangan
ng bayan” and “palengke situation” which he finds apt analogies that
clearly answer the importance of honesty to the people or public.
“Para sa akin, importante yung honesty.
Kaya nga may ‘Timbangan ng Bayan’ eh (For me, honesty is important. That’s why
we have so-called public weighing scales),” he said.
