No curtailment of Press Freedom in PH - Duterte

There is no curtailment of Press Freedom in the country.
This was the statement of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte when asked about the CEO OF Rappler Maria Ressa issue wherein the latter accuses the government of curtailing of press freedom when she was arrested for  a criminal charge of cyber libel.

Duterte told reporters that he is used to the different criticisms while he was serving as mayor of Davao City.
Susmaryosep. Far from it actually. I’ve been mayor for so many years. I have been the subject of all kinds of attack, personal and whatever — silly and everything,” the President said.
Duterte directly said no, when he was asked if his government was behind the arrest of Ressa.
He does not know businessman Wilfredo Keng, the complainant in Ressa’s case.
“I do not know him and what prompted him to file a case,” he said.
The President who is also a lawyer, explains that it was but normal for courts to issue warrant of arrest once a case is filed.
Ressa was arrested from a cyber libel complaint filed by private complainant Keng in October 2017, who was named by Santos in the article titled, “CJ using SUVs of ‘controversial’ businessmen’, as the owner of a sports utility vehicle used by the late former Chief Justice Renato Corona.
The article was published in 2012 and updated in 2014.
Maria Ressa already posted a bail of PHP100,000 for her temporary liberty, not long after she orchestrated a well planned theatrics in announcing publicly that the Philippine justice system is being used persecuting her.
