The BOC seems to be turning a new leaf for the better, Bureau of Customs-Port of Manila (POM) has posted a revenue surplus of PHP143 million in its January collection.

POM actual collection of PHP7.592 billion is higher than its target of PHP7.449 billion for the period, district Collector Rhea Gregorio said.

With respect to the total amount of import duties and taxes, POM was able to collect last month were up by PHP1.79 billion from PHP5.8 billion a year ago.

This can be attributed to "strict implementation and fair application of laws, rules and regulation and identifying overlaps and redundancies that causes red tape and avoidable delays." Gregorio explains.

She also acknowledges the support and cooperation of all stakeholders and hardworking personnel in achieving the collection for the first month of the year.

The District Collector also served as district collector of Port of Subic from September to December last year (2018), where she led the port to achieve an all-time high for its annual collections of PHP22.4 billion or a surplus of PHP1.3 billion.
