Belgian-made wind turbines soon to power beautiful Batanes

Batanes will soon be powered by wind turbines.

The Belgian government through its Ambassador in the Philippines  Michel Goffin that a Belgian manufacturer will be entering the Philippine market.

"The company (Xant) is selling wind turbines that can fold when there's a typhoon in just 10 minutes. We will sell (it) in remote areas but we (are planning) in Batanes," Goffin told reporters.

The Ambassador said that the Belgium government is expected to provide seed money worth 700,000 euros to jumpstart the project in the country, which will include a product demo turbines.

Goffin relates that before, three French-made wind turbines in the past had provided energy to the island of Batanes -- before being tilted down permanently.

Also the envoy said numerous Belgian companies are showing interest in investing in the country most especially in renewable energy.
