"Yes, we are. (However), I do not know (yet) the exact number of (batteries we will be getting)," Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.
A battery in military parlance refers to the grouping of missile launchers. A normal battery consists of three or more missile launchers.
SPYDER is short for Surface-to-air Python and Derby mobile-air defense system that was developed by the Israeli defense technology firm, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, with assistance from Israel Aerospace Industries.
Last year the country took a giant leap, entering the missile age when it has acquired surface to surface Spike-ER missiles all of which are installed in the Philippine Navy’s multi-purpose assault crafts (MPAC’s).
During last year’s visit to Israel by President Duterte, he was quoted as saying that he sees Israel as an alternative supplier of weapons and he intends to buy military equipment exclusively from Israel because of the country’s lack of restrictions unlike the United States of America, who refused to sell weapons to the country over allged human rights violations.
