Vatican has spoken.
Pope Francis says that governments have duty to combat drug traffickers, who peddle “death”. An given the context of this message, it would seem the Philippines is on the right track.

The Pope, speaking to the participants of a conference on drug addiction decried “pathological forms derived from a secularized cultural climate, marked by the capitalism of consumption.” Pope Francis also noted “existential emptiness” and the “precariousness” of human ties.
At the Vatican conference, the participants had to grapple with issues ““of old and new addictions that block integral human development,”the Pope said.
Pope Francis as if he was talking to the only Catholic country is Asia has called on everyone to combat production and distribution of such drugs and has reiterated that it is the task of governments “to face with courage this fight against the traffickers of death.”
On the Philippine side, it has been the campaign promise of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to fight the illegal drugs trade in the county. Has declared an all out war on drugs, and has been always at odds with some members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines with respect on how the government is conducting its business with respect to the illegal drugs.
The question will be how this statement of the Pope will affect the position of both the CBCP and the Duterte administration on the matter of the proliferation of illegal drugs on the country.
