Defense Chief Lorenzana : We are ready for NPA's intensified attacks

The Armed Forces of the Philippines are more than ready to fend off attacks by the New People’s Army, which has decided to intensify its offensives against government forces after martial law was extended again in Minadanao.

"Hindi naman bago ito. With or without any order from the CPP-NPA they have been hitting us. Our troops are always ready to face them," Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.

The Communist rebels has ordered all its cadres "to mount tactical offensives across the country," saying that all member units must exert all  effort to "punish the worst fascist units and officers of the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines)."

The said declaration of the NPA only proves that the AFP was correct in its decision not to declare a holiday truce/ceasefire this holiday season, said  AFP spokesman Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo.

Arevalo said government forces are not downplaying the threats made by the  rebels.
