CPP-NPA violates own Christmas ceasefire in clash with troops in Rizal - Phil Army

Time and time again the New People’s Army (NPA) will always give the government reasons for them not to be trusted.

A few weeks ago, with the help from big media outlets, they declared a holiday ceasefire for the holidays and even slammed President Duterte for not following their lead, mainly because the President ordered the AFP to destroy them even if it’s the holidays.

But lo and behold on Christmas day itself, the NPA violated its own ceasefire when it clashed with government troops in Rizal, resulting in the wounding of a militiaman, Capt. Patrick Jay Retumban of the Rizal-based 2nd Infantry Division (ID) of the Philippine Army said.

The incident happened with about 20 NPA rebels fired upon the soldiers who were doing their patrol duties in Rodriguez around 12 noon.

Brig. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr., commander of the Army’s 202nd Infantry Brigade, said civilians in the area, tipped off the government troops regarding the presence of the NPA in the area, who were reportedly planning to raid the Macaingalan patrol base at the village of Puray in Rodriguez.

The actual firefight lasted for only five minutes which resulted into the wounding on the leg of one member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu), he is now in stable condition.

The communist rebels are suspected to be under the NPA Sub-Regional Party of the Regional Military Area in Calabarzon under the leadership of Jonathan “Boyong” Mopon.
