The
President intends to still pursue his advocacy / political promise that he will
solve the drug problem until he steps down from Malacanang when his term ends.
President
Rodrigo Roa Duterte, over the weekend reiterated his campaign promise of giving
solution to the illegal drugs widely available in the country, this despite
other equally important problems his administration is facing.
I have remaining mga
three (years). I hope that I can put in place something,” Duterte said before
members of the Filipino community in Papua New Guinea. Duterte's term as
President ends in 2022.

He made this
statement infront of the Filipino community in Papua New Guinea.
There is an
estimated 40,000 Filipinos in PNG as per the data from the Department of
Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Duterte assured the
Filipino community that his administration has already gained momentum in
fighting illegal drugs and graft and corruption.
Proof of this is
that he has fired several members of his government, including Philippine
National Police personnel, who were accused of abuses and wrongdoings but at
the same time admitting that it remains a big problem.
“Do you know ang
droga hindi mahinto (Do you know why illegal drugs continues)? Because it’s
money and it’s very hot,” Duterte said.
The president last
week announced that he wants “the entire government machinery” to participate in
the governments aggressive war on illegal drugs.
“I will issue a
memorandum circular directing the entire government machinery to mobilize its
assets and to take an active role in government's anti-illegal drug campaign
nationwide,” Pres. Duterte said.
Also he plans to
create a task force on anti-illegal drugs composed of different law-enforcing
government agencies.
“What we have is the
moving forward to eradicate illegal drug trade, activate a National
Anti-illegal Drug Task Force,” Duterte said.
Duterte said the
task force will be composed of the personnel assets from the Philippine
National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Customs
(BOC), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and other agencies of the government.
