Oil exploration in West PH Sea, we cannot do it on our own - Sotto

Its alright to be mighty and proud but it takes a special kind of humility to admit that we as a nation to admit that we cannot do it on our own.

Senate President Vicente Sotto defended the need for a joint oil and gas exploration with China in the highly contested West Philippine Sea.

Reporters asked the Senate President about the potential dangers to the country in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation on Oil and Gas Development that was signed by China and the Philippines, Sotto said “wala siguro ( I think there’s none).

As a matter of fact, it's about time sapagkat hindi naman natin kaya (because we cannot do it) on our own," Sotto said

The Senate President disclosed that he is privy to a proposal of a 60-40 revenue sharing with China , in favor to the Philippines.

Agreeing to such set up he said would be tantamount to China recognizing our sovereign rights over the West Philippine Sea, or areas that lie within the country’s 200- mile exclusive zone.

"Kung yun ang magiging kasunduan, obvious na nirerecognize tayo (If that would be the agreement, we're obviously recognized)," Senate President said.

Sotto was elated to hear from Chinese President Xi Jinping for his pronouncement
The South China Sea should not be a cause of dispute, when they had a half hour meeting with the Chinese President along with House Speaker  Gloria-Macapagal Arroyo and other high ranking government officials.

"Kaya payag sila doon sa mga issue ng exploration na Pilipinas ang magli-lead (So they agree that the Philippines should lead the joint exploration),"  Sotto said.
