"It is a people problem. Bad people problem. If you reduce the bad people, you reduce the problem," he said.

He gave the scenario that the supply from the major meth producing country in Asia can be reduced it has a direct effect in reducing illicit trafficking of said illegal drugs and crimes. The Philippines he said is in the crossroads of the illegal drug trade in this part of the world.

"The drug problem is not a social problem. Don't say the poor do it, that the poor are criminals. I know poor people. I've never seen a single criminal among them. I do know that drug dealers are rich people. They are people who have jobs and who have capital to engage in that trade," he said.

The DFA secretary said that drug dealing is a “personal , criminal career choice.”

"Very profitable ones, but only today with really fatal consequences, almost immediately," he said.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte since his election has made it as one of his administration’s policy to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country.

As per the Philippine National Police drug suspects that have been killed is at around 4,200 and around 142,000 others arrested since 2016, according to police data released last April, 2018.
