20 of 42 PH airports are already night-flight capable

Department of Transportation (DOTr) is doing it one airport at a time.

Tourists spots in the country to be more  accessible to foreign nationals and for the transpo of much needed goods from different points of the country it is inevitable that our airports has the capacity to be operational 24 hours 7 days in a week, and this can only be attained if it can be operated still at night.

Making our airports night-rated capable is a must so that it can serve a lot more passengers.

Mahalaga ang night-rated capacity kasi kapag wala nito kapag sunset, yung airport ay di mo na magagamit. Ginagawa natin ang night-rated capacity sa mga commercially operational airports ngayon. (Night-rated capacity is important because without this, our airports can no longer be used after sunset. We are aiming for commercially operational airports in the country today to have night-rated capacities),” DOTr Sec. Tugade said.

The government target under the Duterte administration is to have all 42 airport’s to be night-rated before President Duterte’s term ends.

Airports in Legazpi, Roxas, Dumaguete, and Caticlan—were night-rated in 2017.

Tuguegarao Airport was the lates to be night rated.

Airports in Dipolog, Cotabato, and Cauayan airports are targeted to be night-rated this year, according to the Tugade.

The DOTr has recently appealed to the Senate to restore its budget allotted for night-rating airports next year.

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has granted a budget of PHP76.1 billion for 2019 which will be  used for the night-rating of the airports in Panglao, Cauayan, Dipolog, Pagadian, and Cotabato.

But the original proposal submitted was P160B.

Based on the DOTr assestment of cost in the upgrade an airport with night operation capabilities, governmnent will need atleast P400 million per airport.

Upgrade will consists of the construction and procurement of navigational facilities and equipment, as well as extension of runways.
