NPA to be defeated by mid 2019- Pres. Duterte

Hope it meets the deadline.

The ongoing insurgency problems with the New People’s Army (NPA) has been plaguing the country’s aspiration in being a fully developed and prosperous nation.

The Commander in Chief President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is expecting the defeat of the decades-old communist insurgency by the second quarter of next year (2019).

Peace talks between the government and the communists have been stalled due to unreasonable demands of the latter headed by their founder and exiled leader Joma Sison.

The President said many members of the  New People’s Army (NPA) rebels have surrendered to the government despite threats of being assassinated by their former comrades.

“I think that if God is merciful, this would be over by about the second quarter of next year. Many are surrendering. The good thing there is there are firearms,” Duterte said.

“Usually, they do not bring firearms. That’s really prohibited. You will really be killed. But this time, they are coming down and surrendering firearms,” he added.

The President has noted the huge numbers of rebels returning to the folds of the law, as a result of the combination of making the military modern and stronger and the livelihood programs for the communist rebels.

Kombinasyon po ‘yan -- 'yung patuloy na pakikipaglaban sa kanila at patuloy na pag-eenganyo na mag-surrender ang mga nanlalaban sa ngalan ng Communist Party of the Philippines (It’s a combination of continuing to fight with them and continuing to encourage them to surrender),” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

‘Delusion’

Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Ma. Sison claimed that President  Duterte showed signs of delusion when he predicted the downfall of the CPP-NPA by 2nd quarter of 2019, saying it is more likely that he will be ousted from power before that period.

“It is more likely that Duterte would be ousted from power” than him destroying the people’s revolutionary movement by the middle of next year, Sison said.

  1. Nasa ibang bansa kasi si sison kaya hindi nya napupulsuhan kung ano talaga ang nangyayari. Puro balita lang ang sa kanya.
