Lorenzana on coup rumors : There no 'division' among troops

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is loyal to the chain of command.

Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, denied reports that there is crack in the military’s loyalty.

"I don’t think so, that’s just a rumor. Alam mo 'yung gumagawa ng istoryang ganyan, marami (daw) nang disgruntled na active military (personnel) pero wala naman kaming nakikita (There are those who really make up stories like that. That there are those active miltary personnel who are disgruntled but we haven't seen any),," Lorenzana said in an ambush interview at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

Opposition senator and now holed up at the Senate, Antonio Trillanes claims that members of the AFP are divided over the declaration of his amnesty as void ab initio based from the Presidential Proclamation 572.

The Defense chief was also asked to comment about the morale of all the uniformed personnel, Lorenzana said its very high.

"Mataas (ang morale), katataas lang ng sweldo nila ng doble di mataas ang morale nila (Their morale is high. Their salaries were recently doubled so their morale is high). So that’s not true but destabilization (is) actually (true), pero ung galing sa (but as for the) CPP/NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines/New People's Army) which they hatched in 2016 and it was finalized in 2017. Meron na kasing (There is the) Oust Duterte Movement, pinapaano nila yan sa mga galamay nila (Their minions are working on it). I don’t know kung sasakyan yan ng ibang grupo (if other groups are working with them), we do not know," he added.

Further the Defense Chief was asked what will be his advise on those officers and men of the Armed Forces being wooed by outside forces to join the destabilization efforts against President Duterte.

"Kung merong lalapit sa inyo na gaganun (If there are those who will ask you), trying to recruit you, wag nyo pakinggan (don't listen to them)," the DND chief stressed.

Last week, senator Trillanes’ classmate and fellow Magdalo member has asked the policemen and the military not to follow the ‘illegal orders’ from the Duterte.

"I call on the AFP and PNP to not follow illegal orders. Huwag nilang hayaan na gamitin ang kanilang institusyon sa isang bagay na lumalabag sa ating mga batas (They should not allow their institutions to be used in something that violates our laws). I would like to remind them that they swore to uphold and protect the laws of the land," he added.
