Pres. Duterte expected to sign 8 deals in the historic first visit by a PH leader in Jordan

Another first for the Philippines will be done by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has recently said that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is slated to visit Jordan on September 6-8 upon the personal invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

DFA in a statement said that the historic official visit will be to reaffirm and renew the Philippines’ ties with Jordan as President Duterte will hold talks with King Abdullah II on broadening cooperation, particularly in the promotion of peace and progress.

"On this important visit, the first to be made by a Philippine President to Jordan, business leaders from both countries will likewise meet to explore ways of increasing two-way trade and investments," the statement read.

The schedule of the president would include meeting the members of the Filipino community in Jordan, "in line with the Duterte administration’s thrust of empowering Filipinos overseas and enhancing their well-being."

This historic trip will follow a prior historic trip by the Philippine President to Israel- which is also a first by a sitting Chief Executive of the country.


The DFA also said that the following agreements are expected to be signed between the Philippines and Jordan:


• Labor: Memorandum on the employment of domestic workers and also a memorandum of understanding on labor cooperation to improve working conditions of Filipino domestic workers in Jordan.
• Defense: Memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation to upgrade the country’s defense capabilities.
• Foreign affairs: Political consultations
• Trade and investment: Investment agreement with Jordan Investment Commission and expect enhancement of two-way trade and investments.
• A mutual recognition of Standard of Training and Certification of Watchkeepers (STCW) for Seafarers
