Both Oligarchs & media scheming vs Duterte - Cabinet Sec.

The heat and the long reach of government they can no longer evade.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was really the unexpected winner in the last 2016 Presidential race, the very first President coming from Mindanao, a long time public servant as a local official, and the only politician to have won the elections without a big financer and political party- it was all the doing of the voters. This are but some of the things whether his detractors would affirm or deny catapulted him to be President of the republic.

Duterte in his first two years in office, really made his mark as Chief head of the country, though he is mostly being portrayed as one who is very much into eradicating the illegal drugs, he also made other campaign promises which though not yet fully complied has already made a big headway- meeting the Oligarchs head on with respect to paying their lawful taxes due to the government.

Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr., in his speaking engagement in Benguet State University in La Trinidad made an accusation against media and the “oligarchs” of banding together in attacking the President.

“For the first time, this government was able to say (to these oligarchs), ‘pay your taxes now’,” Evasco stressed, he points out that most of big media companies are owned by rich families.

“There is an existing connivance between the oligarchs and the media who are now hitting the administration by reporting mostly negative news against the President,” said Evasco.

Evasco, points out the success of Duterte against a few of them- Philippine Air Lines Lucio Tan paid its P6- billion debt to government and  cigarette firm Mighty Corporation settled for P30 billion its tax delinquency in favor of the government. That is P36 billion on the President’s first two years in office, an achievement which is unheard of with his predecessors.

Evasco explains that the administration will not stop with its laurels, under big companies in the country are being investigated for tax delinquencies one such company is Dunkin Donuts franchisee of the Prieto family, also majority stockholders of Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Evasco assured those who attended that the Duterte administration is always promoting the interest of every Filipino.
