Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is in a fighting mood.
He’s been into different kind of situations and
for this latest development he will not back off. Pasay Prosecutor Joahna
Gabatino-Lim signed a decision that states that the utterances Trillanes made
“may have been suggestive to fall within the scope of inciting to sedition.”
“It is recommended that the within attached information for inciting to
sedition… against respondents Senator Antonio F. Trillanes IV, John and Jane
Does be approved and filed in court,” the decision, dated March 14, 2018, said. *

The Senator already gave the answer that he will face this inciting to
sedition charge head on and that he is not afraid to answer it in court.
“Hindi gaya ni Duterte na duwag humarap sa kaso; haharapin ko
ito,” Trillanes said in a statement, apparently referring to President Duterte’s
decision to withdraw the Philippines’ ratification of the Rome Statute.
Yesterday the President made it public that that the Philipines is withdrawing its membership to the International Criminal Court. The President in a statement given to media cites the following reasons: “baseless, unprecedented and outrageous attacks” against the President and the alleged attempt by the ICC special prosecutor to place the Philippine President under ICC jurisdiction, “violation of due process and the presumption of innocence expressly guaranteed by the Philippine Constitution and recognized no less by the Rome Statute”, “An international law cannot supplant, prevail or diminish domestic law. Even assuming that ICC can have jurisdiction over my person still the acts complained of purportedly committed by me do not fall under the enumerated grounds by which the ICC can assume jurisdiction,” and the drug related killings are not the instances that would make for a ground for the president to be under the ICC jurisdiction. *

“Maliwanag na
baluktot at panggigipit itong kasong ito na nakabase sa privilege speech ko sa
Senado na bukod na sa merong constitutionally guaranteed immunity from suit, ay
wala akong inincite na kung sino to do anything,” the senator said.
“Kung ang pakay nito ay takutin ako para umatras ako sa pagpuna kay Duterte, well, sabi ko nga dati pa, lalo pa akong ginaganahan tumayo laban sa mali at masama,” he added.
