It was a mistake to appoint her as Chief Justice.
Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chair Senator Richard Gordon was
interviewed by Karen Davila in her ANC show titled Headstart and was asked about the Chief Justice Maria
Loudes Sereno’s possible impeachment in July.
Chief Justice Sereno is facing a full blown impeachment
trial after the House of Representatives Justice Committee chair Rey Umali and
members voted 38-2 that there is probable cause to impeach Sereno over alleged
culpable violation of the Constitution, corruption, betrayal of public trust
and other high crimes. *

The submission of the articles of impeachment still needs to undergo an approval in the plenary. Its only when the articles of impeachment is properly endorse to the senate, the latter will convene itself into an impeachment court.
In the show, the senator was asked about his opinion
regarding the appointment of Chief Justice Sereno, and outright Gordon said
that former President Benigno Aquino III made a mistake when he appointed Maria
Lourdes Sereno as the top magistrate of the Supreme Court because she was too
young.
"You’re putting a young lady before seasoned veterans
of the law, seniors....I thought that was a mistake because when you appoint
somebody that young, politically, realistically, babangga-banggain 'yan,"
Senator Richard Gordon said.
"She might be there for the next 17 years. Wala nang
pag-asa yung iba. They will be watching her and she will be living on
tenterhooks," the senator said.
Sereno became the first female chief justice at the young age
of 52 years old in 2012 after former
Chief Justice Reynato Corona was impeached by the Aquino administration.
Lawyer Lorenzo Gadon was the one who initiated the complaint
against the Chief Justice, he alleges that the Chief Justice has violated the
Constitution, betrayal of public trust, corruption, and other high crimes-
hence he should be removed from her position via impeachment. *
Only a few days ago the Solicitor General Jose Calida filed
before the Supreme Court a quo warranto petition asking it to void CJ Sereno's appointment due to alleged
misdeclaration of wealth.
