Can this be already a classic case of “Balimbing”?.
Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte is a former Liberal
Party member and the daughter of former speaker Feliciano Belmonte who is very
much known to be a true blue Liberal party stalwart from the very start. The
older Belmonte has been known to have supported both the Presidencies of
Corazon Aquino and her son Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III.
Joy Belmonte is on her third term as Vice Mayor and has made
it publicly that she will be gunning for the Mayorship of Quezon City this
coming 2019 mid-term elections. *
Last year she bolted out from the Liberal Party transferring
to Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), the political party
of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
The Quezon City Vice Mayor has been asked last year if she
consulted her father regarding her bolting out of the Liberal Party, the vice
mayor said, "Alam po niya and he is supportive of my decision."
Yesterday, at the Cuneta Astrodome
in Pasay City, a mass oathtaking was held for the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte-National Executive
Coordinating Committee (MRRD NECC). The President welcomes and is ready to
accept as allies the politicians who supported his opponents in the last
Presidential elections last 2016.
“Now, hindi ninyo kasalanan ngayon nandito kayo sa akin. Kasi that is
the culture of politics everywhere na kung sino ‘yung manalo, maglipat doon,
pati ‘yung incumbent mayors because you want to help,” Duterte said, adding
that he does not care about the previous political affiliation/s of his
supporters since he is already the sitting President.
“Nagsama tayo, hindi kayo tumulong sa akin, kay Binay kayo, kay Grace,
wala na akong pake, kay Mar. Tapos na ‘yun. Bakit pa ba ako mag-ano diyan?
Panalo na ako,” President Duterte said.
Belmonte showed her support for President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s programs
against illegal drugs, criminality, insurgency, poverty, and corruption,
pledging to rally behind the administration's advocacies. *
She was sworn in to be the political adviser of MRRD-NECC QC chapter
yesterday.
“This was the organization that really worked hard for President
Duterte. But if you notice who they are, they're not personalities. They are
just regular men and women who probably have personal experiences and they felt
it would help change their experiences for the better,” Belmonte said.
She said that the MRRD-NECC is a testimony that people can really choose their leaders and it does not matter if they are from the grassroots.
“I love that. This is grassroots. It is for the grassroots, came from the grassroots, and expanded also because of the efforts of its grassroots leaders. They are all volunteers,” she said.
