The Philippine President along with ruling Thai officials and Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen, as among regional leaders who threaten democracy and human rights in Southeast Asia.

Trillanes describes the situation as a “warning shot” to the current administration considering the alleged high number of people that have died in the implementation of the brutal anti-illegal drug war.

He calls the Worldwide Threat Assessment report as fair, and adds the recent actions of Duterte which he calls a mark or sign of “creeping dictatorship.”

"If they're sensitive enough, they should look at it as some form of a warning shot that he's nearing that red line because domestically he's pushing boundaries because he's popular enough to do that," Trillanes said in ANC.

President Spokesman Harry Roque, has made a statement that the government is  taking the Worldwide Threat Assessment report very seriously.

"This is something we are taking very seriously. It is coming from the intelligence community. It is not even coming from the State Department. It is something that the President will take seriously as well," he said in a separate interview.

Roque, reiterates that all media outfits are still able to broadcast and print whatever they want, even including fake news. *

The Judiciary and the Philippine Congress is very much functioning and independent and is still delivering basic services to the citizenry.
