Duterte to NPA: You're almost like ISIS

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has been very critical to the New People’s Army since the peace talks has bogged down.

The President in his speech in Quezon city early this week, has labelled the NPA as the same with the international group ISIS.

He said the NPA is a group guided by an empty ideology which does nothing but kill people of the republic.

Early this month the President branded the members of the CPP-NPA as terrorists (photo credit to owner)

"Ang aking direction sa police pati Armed Forces [My direction to the police and the Armed Forces] is to give you no quarters. No quarters given, no quarters asked. I'm sick and tired of talking to you. Almost pareho kayo ng ISIS [You are almost the same as ISIS]."

The Islamic State is a terror group that seized territories in Iraq and Syria. They have carried out many deadly attacks in different parts of the world, and has made Southeast Asia a place of interest.

The President has lambasted the NPA over reports he received saying that apart from extorting people for money, there are also reports that the NPA rebels have been  also harassing and touching women in the far flung provinces.

Earlier this month, the Department of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. welcomed the declaration of the President branding the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) as a terrorist organization.

It was a proclamation declaring the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army as a designated identified terrorist organization under RA (Republic Act) 10168, the Human Security Act," Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a news briefing.

If a person or entity is charged with terrorism, they would be sentenced to jail  for 40 years without parole. The penalty is heavier than rebellion, which is punishable by reclusion perpetua or 20 to 40 years of imprisonment, but eligible for pardon after 30 years. *

Rebellion, insurrection, murder, and arson may count as terrorist acts under the law.
